Have you ever felt like there are just too many parties to go to? No? Me neither. Well this week is definitely for you.
Thursday
Those Rowdy dudes are getting crazy tonight with DJ SS. SS is one of the best producers in drum n bass/jungle and has been dropping sick tracks for years. Its only $10 with an open bar from 10 - 12. more...Friday
Start your weekend right with Second Fridays in West Philly/University City. Check out the Faux Show at the Klein Art Gallery in the Science center at 3600 Market. The exhibition "expores the idea and prevalence of simulation in our daily lives - fake Rolexes, digitally altered media, soy burgers, boy bands, sweet-n-low, celebrities, Las Vegas, staged photo-ops. Over 20 artists will address the idea of illusions and fakes". Plus they have a wine tasting courtesy of West Park imports. After that head up to Lancaster Avenue for more art and fun. Next head out to the Trocadero for a special benefit event by Winged Lion Pride & Mikey Madnez for a special Veterans Day event with Mellow Veneer (Groove Rock Experience), Po-Po's (reggae/punk rock), Philly Slick (Hip-hop/Jazz ensemble), Mokamatrol (unclassifiable rock) and special guest-Macklemore (seattle based MC). Proceeds benefit local V.A. hospitals & the Golden Net Project. Tickets are only $7 so come out and support the cause. Definitely check out the Golden Net Project. You may also remember Winged Lion from the work they did for Mississippi Love.
Saturday
This is going to be crazy. 2 benefit parties and maybe some Absolut and Hennessy in between?
Check out World Cafe Live at 3025 Walnut Street for ReNew Orleans. This will be a live show to benefit The New Orleans Musicians Hurricane Relief Fund. Check out King Britt's Sister Gertrude Morgan Experience, Ursula Rucker, Ryat, Bahamadia and on the ones and twos King Britt and Statik. This should be an amazing event with some really good music all for a good cause. What more could you want?
If you sneak out early (not saying you should) check out Marathon Grill on Commerce Square with Soul Travelers (Brendan Bring'Em and Joey Blanco) with open Absolut & Hennessy bar from 10 - 11 for $5 if you're on the list.
From those dudes that brought you Child's Play comes The Roof is on Fire. This is actually a benefit for their friend that "came home to his apartment, only to find it engulfed in flames, along with everything in it: turntables, records, TV, clothes... unfortunately, even his dog." Yeah, so come out and party. Check the full details over at my man Emil's blog Schizophrenic Tenant Number One
Sunday
Like I said before Roller derby is back with a vengeance. To get in on the action and watch some Burlesque on wheels head over to Millenium Skate World for the Philly Roller Girls premier exhibition bout. With a halftime performance by Hellcat Burlesque and a free open skate with a rockin' dj, what more could you ask for? Check out the Roller Girls website for full details
Since I'm sure you didn't drink enough this weekend, its time to Destroy Your Liver with the tallest DJ's in the game Steven Bloodbath and Dan the Swede upstairs at the Khyber (2nd and Chestnut). Its definitely named appropriately as its a $15 open bar from 8 - 2am. Wow. I wish sleeping was optional.

I missed DJ SS in Philly because I was in Cali ;-(
Yeah, the Roller Girls are for real. Just like the good 'ol days of Roller derby. There are four different teams right now and they are definitely kicking ass. Check pics here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tags/phillyrollergirls/
